The farmer and the faithful dog

 Story! Story!!

Once upon a time in a far land, there lived a farmer with his wife, his baby, and his dog. The farmer loved his wife and child so much that he did all to protect and provide for them.  He also took care of his loyal dog because it had became a part of his family.

It happened that one day, the farmer and his family together with their dog went to a farm deep in the wild forest to plant some maize and cassava stem.  When they got to the farm they laid their sleeping baby under a big tree not too far from their farm to shield it from the scorching sun.  The loyal dog was kept to watch  over the sleeping child while the farmer and his wife went away to the farm to work.

Few hours later, while they were farming,  the dog came running towards the couple with its mouth covered with blood. The farmer's wife was the first to sight the dog with its blood-stained mouth.

" Oh, my world! This beast had eaten my poor child out of hunger" she cried out in fear. Seeing the dog in its state, the farmer, without pausing to think, angrily picked up a big wood and hit the dog on its head, "Bang, bang, bang " repeatedly he kept hitting it on it's head until the dog howled and died. Hurriedly, he left the lifeless dog in the farm and ran to meet his wife who had rushed to the scene of the incident. When he got to where the child was, to his surprise, he found his wife with their child. The baby was crying because she had woken up to a frightening sight beside it.  There on the ground close to where the baby slept, laid a dead snake in blood.

" The dog fought and killed the snake to protect our baby," the farmer's wife muttered silkily.

The farmer felt remorse for what he had done, " I would have first listened to what it came to say before brutally taking its life". He mumbled sadly.

Solemnly, he went back to where the dead dog lay and took it with his family home to give it the last respect it deserved.

MORAL LESSONS.

1: Anytime you are faced with a situation, think before you act.

2:Until you have clear evidence that what is presented is true, do not make any rash decision or conclusion.

3: Do not judge anyone until you get to know their side of the story.
